For the first time in, well, ever the folks at Google\ndecided to announce ahead of time that they were going to roll out a major\nchange to their search engine algorithm \u2013 promising that the Google Core Update\nfor June 2019 was going to shake things up quite a bit, but giving people at\nleast a little bit of lead time so that the changes wouldn\u2019t be so out of the\nblue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It certainly lived up to those search engine optimization\nworld shaking expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officially live on June 3 2019, the new Core Update has\nbrought about a handful of new changes that are going to impact the way that\nsearch engine optimization is approached. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Build not as a major overhaul of the entire search engine\nalgorithm (the way that the infamous Panda and Penguin updates were a few short\nyears ago), lead Google search engineer Danny Sullivan promised that this\nwasn\u2019t going to be \u201canything special or particularly big\u201d \u2013 but that there was\ngoing to be some changes that will impact everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This new update changes the way that video carousels are\ndisplayed in search engine rankings, helping the visibility of YouTube results\ngrow by 25% in the first week post this Core Update. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On top of that, those that search from a desktop device are\ngoing to see an increase in video carousel results as well \u2013 with an already\nrecognized 61.1% increase since the June update was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There\u2019s plenty of reactionary blowback as soon as a major\nGoogle shakeup is rolled out, but most of the time the initial changes level\noff quite a bit with only the worst offenders that were trying to game the\nsearch engine rankings ending up \u201cburned\u201d and shuffled to the back of the\nresults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the June Core Update, however, there are quite a few major\nnews sites that Google has identified as \u201clow-quality news\u201d that are definitely\nhaving their search engine rankings cratered in the aftermath of this new\nalgorithm update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Daily Mail in the United Kingdom and CBS.com in the\nUnited States have been hit pretty hard by this new update, and it\u2019s almost\ncertain that rival networks and new sources are going to be able to capitalize\non this shakeup that has devalued the search engine results on articles linked\nthrough these domains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interestingly enough, while low-quality and smaller sites\nare being targeted and devalued by this update for sure larger sites that have\nrock solid reputations for producing or aggregating quality content are going\nto be more than flooding the gaps left in this shakeup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Platforms like Yelp.com and Yellow Pages.com are seeing big\nboosts to their search engine rankings, and other major aggregators that are\nobviously working to publish work from quality content writing services are\nseeing a big uptick in \u201clink juice\u201d as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of the day, it\u2019s far too early to say just how\nmuch of a short-term or long-term impact the Google Core Update for June 2019\nis going to have when you consider the fact that it\u2019s only been out for little\nover 10 days now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, Google has such a wide reach in the search\nin space today that even the smallest and subtlest changes to their algorithm\nare going to make waves that reach all corners of the internet \u2013 sometimes\nunpredictably so!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
